Smithsonian Air and Space Museum

Pilot and cousin, Jamie, shoulda been there!  It is very spectacular and if you happen to know what you are looking at it is probably twice as spectacular.

There is an observatory for nighttime viewing of the stars; there is an IMAX theatre with films from the space station and the Hubble telescope;  and more--so much more.

There is so much to see and study--and a lot of it is hanging from the ceiling.

Like "The Spirit of St Louis"

Apollo II, Command Module, Columbia

This looks like a blown up version of the zipper foot from my sewing machine.

And this is another moon rock!  I have touched two moon rocks in my life! It's mind-boggling!

Here again are two of my favorite inventors, Orville and Wilbur Wright, on their front porch....

gazing at their invention--not a copy.

And for me their mother is the heroine of the story....

Rockets..

Skylab...

Boosters.

And .......I think I'll go to Mars on my next journey.

  1. Thanks, Toni.
Unfortunately, this museum is why I never saw more of the other Smithsonian museums when we lived in Wilmington, DE, just up the road. Every time we went down to Washington I wanted to see this museum again.
