From Coos Bay to Tillamook

My GPS kept telling me to stay on Oh Reagan 101.

It took a while to realize Oh Reagan was Oregon.

As Jo and I traveled on the road from  Coos Bay  to Tillamook I spied a familiar red vehicle turning onto the highway.  If it was Glenn from the blog 'To Simplify' then I sure wanted to say "Hello".

(Jo, Daisy and Glenn)
I followed him until he pulled over to see who was 'stalking' him. We had a few hours to catch up on our travels then he parked behind us for the night at the casino in Florence.  It is so fun to run into acquaintances in such unexpected places.

The days were getting cloudier and the mornings were foggy.  I was beginning to worry that the eclipse would not be visible.  As it turned out we could not have had a more beautiful clear day.

We found this lovely little cove so Jo could get her feet in the water...

...and Daisy could dig as many holes as she wanted.

As is usually the case on the Oregon coast there were very few people on the beaches.

We expected great crowds the few days before the eclipse but it didn't happen.

I think all the news items about the crush of people caused them to head further east for the event.

We had no trouble finding places to stay.  Camping clubs like RV Golf Club and Harvest Hosts, and the "Casino Camping" book provided free nights all along the Oregon Coast.

In Tillamook, the Blue Heron French Cheese Company was a Harvest Host member and we stayed here for one night.  They have a wonderful gift shop and tasting room...

...a petting zoo that Daisy liked...

...plus a lot of rusting old farm equipment that was fun to explore.

We parked among these derelicts

...and had a very restful night.

To my dismay, the Tillamook Cheese Factory was under renovation.  Probably a good thing since, the last time I was there I bought an amazing amount of cheese stuff that I really didn't need.

  1. You have the best adventures. First time I visited the Tillamook factory they still did most of the cheese making by hand, and you could go right in and watch what they were doing. The second time it was more automated and behind glass, but you could still see a lot.
The cheese does not taste the same as it used to in the olden days, though. I think a little bit of dirt and bacteria are what make a cheese!

  2. Before they closed for renovations Jerry and I loved to go to their restaurant for breakfast or lunch. Wonderful 3 cheese omelets and for lunch 3 cheese grilled sandwiches. Wish they had been open for you. You have to come back in 2018 to see the changes and of course to see us.
