Jayne, Sharleen and I chose to spend our last day together in Big Sur. The destination was The River Inn because, beyond the Inn, the road is blocked. A rock slide (actually 1/2 of a mountain) covers 1/4 of a mile of road and has closed the spectacular roadway for months to come.
The River Inn has been a favorite gathering spot in Big Sur since 1932. It consists of a motel, gas station, restaurant and bar, but it is much more than that.
The Inn is perched beside the river, has chairs down to--and into--the river, and food and drinks are served to customers while they sit, soak their feet and meditate. What more could anyone ask?
The all-day sport is to see how many river rocks one can balance before the rocks collapse.
I opted to hold onto Daisy while supervising this serious endeavor.
We reached 19 stacked rocks!!!
A Masterpiece!
A few glasses of wine boosted the creativity.
All in all, it was the perfect end to a wonderful week.
I love the Monterey Peninsula and would enjoy living here again.
There is a hill that rises from the downtown streets and at the very top it is undeveloped, wooded and populated with deer, raccoons, birds and squirrels. Only five minutes from the heart of the town, this pleasant woodland houses an RV park that is run by the Veteran's Association. The park is close to everything and, best of all, is very cheap!
I hesitate to write about it because I don't want to go back and find the park overrun with travelers but I don't think I have enough readers to worry about it.
So, if you have an RV and travel to Monterey, check it out.
